BEHIND THE BUILD

The project story.

The project

Foundation House is a Victorian not-for-profit supporting survivors of torture and other traumatic experiences from refugee backgrounds. Its work includes counselling, advocacy, family support, group programmes, community capacity building, professional development, research and resources.

The challenge

This is sensitive and important content. Services and referral information needed to be easy to locate without becoming clinical or impersonal. The breadth of client services, programmes, training, resources and policy work also created a substantial information-architecture challenge.

The approach

The experience is organised around audience needs and practical actions. People seeking support can find service and referral pathways, while professionals can move toward programmes, training and resources. Consistent headings, summaries and calls to action create predictable journeys.

Service, referral and accessibility

Referral information explains eligibility, consent, available services and the steps referrers need to follow. Layouts prioritise readable type, clear contrast, descriptive links, keyboard-friendly interaction and logical content order. On mobile, long information pages remain structured and high-priority actions stay visible.

The result

The finished website provides a stable platform for services, referrals, professional learning, resources and organisational updates. What I like most is that the design stays quietly in service of the content, helping people reach appropriate information with less friction.
